LIVING WAGE POLICY - WHO IS COVERED?
It is the policy of the City of San José that persons doing work on, for or on behalf of the
City for services that are provided directly to the City or for services otherwise provided
by City employees or who receive financial assistance from the City should be paid a
living wage, be provided with or able to afford health insurance, have reasonable time
off, not be subject to lay off merely because the City changes contractors and should
work in an environment of labor peace.
Living Wage Policy is applied to contracts over $20,000 awarded through a competitive process for services that fall into one of 18 covered categories. Subcontractors are included.
For work classifications where living wage and prevailing wage are applicable, use the higher rate.

Contractors are required to provide 12 days of compensated time off per year for full-time workers and 6 days of compensated time off for part-time workers. Paid holidays, sick days, vacation, and personal days can count towards the 12 or 6 required days.
