Mayoral Internship Program


The Mayoral Internship Program seeks students interested in gaining experience in public service, policy, and local government. Interns will be assigned to a team and work closely with other City Departments, coordinate efforts with the Mayoral staff, monitor state and federal developments, and attend meetings within and outside of City Hall. 

Intern duties include but are not limited to: research, policy analysis, council memo review,preparing the Mayor and his staff for meetings, event advance work, letter writing, and administrative support. The internship program offers a hands-on experience for those looking to augment their studies with practical politics and application of their learning.

How to apply:

The Internship Program runs year-round. Applicants interested in applying must complete the application and submit it along with the following materials to
  • Application
  • Cover letter
  • Resume
  • Two writing samples
  • Three references

Our office hosts three internship sessions. Please see the application dates below:
 Session  Duration Application 
 Fall September to December   July 15
 Spring January to May   Nov. 15
 Summer  May to August  March 15


Applicants must be students in college or graduate school and be able to commit either 15 hours a week for a part-time internship or 30 hours a week for a full-time internship. Applicants must demonstrate the following:

  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Strong work ethic
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Passion for public service
  • Must have access to transportation (either a vehicle and a valid driver's license or a transportation pass)
